Many times when a customer calls to get an assessment on the condition/health of a tree I am surprised at how bad the condition of the tree is before them homeowner decides to call. Recently I gave a quote on a tree that the homeowner was worried about. When I got to the property I saw that the tree in question, a white oak tree was rotten most of the way through the trunk. This was vary bad news considering how close it was to the house and outdoor propane tank.

I estimated the tree was rotted 70%-90% through the main part of the trunk and told the homeowner that it should be removed very soon. After my crew and I cut the tree down and saw all the rot in it (closer to 90%) I told her she was very lucky that it didn't blow down in a strong wind. She was very surprised about the amount of rotting that was going on in this oak tree.
